Why a Website?

I began posting some of my weights to Instagram about 10 months ago shortly before Halloween, 2021. I had renovated my basement and along with it, my basement gym. I’d amassed enough weights that I’d started to trade or sell extras, but I kind of missed the weights I saw going out the door. Instagram might serve as my little vintage weights photo album. I’d post all the weights coming and going through my basement gym. I started with a pair of 95 pound York roundheads I’d bought from the Geneva College gym the week before.

After answering similar questions about restoration methods several times, I started to make YouTube videos. That way I could just send people a link to a video. Then I had enough YouTube videos that people couldn’t find the right one.

That’s when I thought to start a website. My goal with the website is to create a resource for anyone curious about vintage weights - their history, how to collect them, and how to restore them. Many have helped my understanding of weights, and I’m very much still learning. You’ll notice several different sources listed, and I encourage you to explore those Instagram accounts, YouTube channels, and websites as well. I’m extremely grateful to the many friends I’ve made in this little old iron community.

The website as it stands is just a start. However, I hope it gives you an idea of the direction I’d like to take it. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to reach out. I don’t know everything about vintage weights, but I like to learn!
