How to Clean Weight Plates with Oil
If there little to no rust, but a lot of dirt and dust, all you need is some oil.
Directions
Step #1 - Gather your supplies and lay down cardboard of plastic sheeting. A supply list is under the video. Find a well ventilated area due to the fumes/smell of the oil.
Step #2 - Wear appropriate safety gear such as gloves and apply 3inONE oil to front of plates with a nylon brush. If cleaning more than few plates, nylon brush drill attachments are useful. However, if you using the drill attachments, make sure to set up a barrier with cardboard behind the plates to prevent splashing from making a mess.
Step #3 - Flip the plates over and apply to the back.
Step #4 - Prop plates up onto each other to allow airflow to all sides of the plate. If possible, let soak overnight.
Step #5 - Wipe down with a microfiber cleaning cloth. Don’t be concerned if they look overly shiny or appear oily at this point. I like the microfiber cloths from Amazon, because they are affordable, last a long time, and soak up the oil much better than normal rags.
Step #6 - After another day, wipe down again.
Step #7 - At this point, your weights should be ready to use. However, depending on the paint on the plates, another wipe with the cloth may be necessary later in the week.
